Meet the TutorTalk Staff

Editor - Anya T.  first considered the PTC upon completion of her  first  NCVPS during Covid-19 and virtual learning. To her, it was an opportunity for connection based on her past experiences and during times of rebuilding. She wanted to help ease tension and provide explanations when it was harder to reach teachers and others and continuously aims to provide support in a tough learning environment. She currently tutors in Math, Science, and Spanish, from Middle School to AP classes, and is a member of the Virtual Buddy Program and Writing Center. Anya works with students as a VB to help get them back on track through worrying times and is excited to work as a Co-Editor this year. Anya is excited and committed to assisting others in publishing articles about new information and experiences.
She looks forward to a year with fellow members of the PTC community.

  1. It is great to see so many students that are willing to help out their peers. Students often can relate to and teach other students in ways teachers can't. Thank you!

  8. positive thinking brings brightness to the eyes, more energy, and happiness. Our whole being broadcasts good will, happiness and success. Even our health is affected in a beneficial way. We walk tall, our voice is more powerful, and our body language shows the way we feel. (Myra Reid)

  14. Thank you ladies for what you do! As a former online student, the online world can very lonely. To an independent worker with the right support system, this is fine. But, for those students who don't have the resources they need readily available, what a powerful tool to have virtual peers supporting them! This is also such a powerful way to model to service to others to your peers, and I hope that it also strengthens the tutors in their own understanding of the content. Thanks for investing in others!

  15. Peer tutoring is a great way to deliver effective support to the many struggling student. Furthermore, peer tutoring can improve the content skills of tutors as well as tutees (Ehly, 1986) and - in some studies-have been shown to build tutor's social skills as well (Garcia-Vazquez & Ehly, 1995). Example: young children tend to find the opportunity to read aloud to an older peer tutor to be quite reinforcing, adding a motivational component to this intervention.

  16. So interested to hear that the peer tutoring involves anxiety and mental health issues as these issues appear to be growing in our society and are not always adequately addressed.
