“Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.” ~Zig Ziglar
What does this quote mean to you? In an online class, it should be something along the lines of applying yourself and putting forth the most effort you can. There are certain things you need to do to be successful in this environment.
It is important that you don’t fall into the mindset of having all the time in the world to complete assignments. Taking classes online does give you the time to complete assignments at your own pace, but you have to use the time you are given wisely. Waiting until the last day possible to do assignments can put too much on your plate – plus, you might not turn in the highest quality work that you can achieve.
As far as being successful in an online class, taking notes is VERY helpful. Simply reading over the information given to you by your teacher is not always enough. Taking notes helps set into your mind what it is that you’re reading. Also, when taking notes, if you write down the information in your own words, you’re more likely to understand what you’re learning about.
Being successful in online classes can be easy, as long as you take the correct steps towards doing so! Don’t let deadlines fool you – getting ahead in your assignments can make taking online classes more enjoyable and less stressful. Remember to try taking notes on your lessons; you’d be surprised by how much it helps. Success might be easier to achieve than you think, and applying these two easy tips to your performance in your online class will make all the difference.
Great tips Jenn! It is very important to work in your online class daily, so that you won't fall behind. Teachers post the assignments for the entire week on Monday - so students should use their time management skills to schedule their assignments throughout the week to ensure that they meet their deadline. Make sure if you fall behind one day, to catch up the very next day. As Jenn said - taking notes will help you as well. Writing the information you study in your own words helps you to understand and retain the information you are learning. Thanks Jenn!
ReplyDeleteJenn, you are right on track with this article! I always advise my students to work ahead if possible. Life happens and it is best to be ahead of the game rather than behind it.
ReplyDeleteTaking notes seems like such a simple thing, but really makes a big difference, especially do students who do not have computer access at home. You can study your notes anywhere, right?
Thanks for taking time to share these tips!
Thank you for the great tips Jen! I also believe that it is important to take notes and use good time management skills! I like that the teachers post the weeeks asignments so that you can work ay your own pace!
ReplyDeleteGreat article Jenn! I really appreciate the advice about note taking. Often I feel guilty for taking notes when it is just a click away but I do find that it solidifies the information for me like nothing else.
ReplyDeleteI think that some of us are most comfortable when we am able to work ahead two or three weeks. Sometimes if the whole course is available it can be overwhelming. Thanks so much for your tips and encouragement.
I really like the Zig Ziglar quote. Where did you get it?
