Peer Tutoring Center
Courtney C. is the lead AP Statistic tutor for the AP Initiative program. At school, she is a varsity softball player, tennis player, and swimmer, as well as the president of her school’s FBLA chapter and executive producer of her school's sports network. She will be attending Winthrop University in the fall, where she plans on playing Division 1 softball and majoring in engineering. In the future, she plans to become a civil engineer and work on infrastructure projects.

Aditya B. is the Tech Support Founder and Co-lead, Team One Co-lead, peer tutor, and member of the Writing Center. He has participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition, as well as the Green Hope Black Falcons Varsity Cybersecurity Team, and was the co-founder and event coordinator of InspireNC Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Challenge. He has also interned for the Game2Learn Lab at North Carolina State University. Aditya volunteers for The Fantasy Doctors and has received four Presidential Volunteer Service Awards for his contributions to the PTC. He will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the fall, where he plans on majoring in systems engineering and design.

Amy L.
Amy L. is a peer tutor and Virtual Buddy. At school, she is the president of the Science Olympiad and is a member of the cross country, track team, and STEM Engineering club. She is also a member of her school’s National Honor Society club. She is also a senior counselor at the No Sleeves Magic Camp. Amy is a recipient of the Park Scholarship and will be attending NC State in the fall. She intends on majoring in chemical engineering.
Shreya S. is a peer tutor, Team Five Co-lead, Virtual Buddy Co-lead, and the lead tutor for AP Environmental Science and AP Psychology as a part of the AP Initiative program. She has an associate's degree in biological sciences and is the president of the National Honor Society at her school. She is highly active in her community, as a volunteer for Atrium Health Pineville and Discovery Place Science. She is also the co-founder of an organization focused on public health. Shreya has received four Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Awards for her contributions to the PTC and is also an Indian Classical Dancer. She will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she has received admission into the Accelerated Research Program. She will be majoring in Computer Science or Statistics and Analytics.

Istar A. is the lead of the Marketing team. She is the president of the National Honor Society at her school, and she is a Questbridge Scholar. She is the recipient of the Goodwin Meissner Scholarship and will be attending Grinnell College in the fall, where she plans on majoring in Computer Science.

Samantha F. is the Team Six Co-lead and Culture Café Lead. At school, she is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and the environmental club. She is also a member of a local youth council organization and has received two Presidential Volunteer Service Awards for her contributions to the PTC. Samantha will attend North Carolina State University in the fall, where she plans on pursuing a degree in history concentrated in education with the intention of becoming a high school social studies teacher.

Jasmin S.
Jasmin S. is the lead of AP English Literature and AP European History in the AP Initiative program. She is also a TutorTalk writer, and a member of the Writing Center, Student Research Alliance, and Virtual Buddy program. As a part of the Student Research Alliance, she presented her research on how music has evolved over time. She has participated in Science Olympiad throughout all four years of high school and is the captain of her school's team. She has also participated in CyberPatriot since eighth grade and is a member of the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society. She is passionate about learning languages and has taken classes in Mandarin, German, Spanish, and French. Jasmin will be attending UNC Wilmington as a part of the Honors Program and intends on majoring in art and science/business.
Anuragh is the lead of the AP Initiative program and is the lead tutor in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Calculus for the program. He is also a peer tutor for the PTC. He is the president and founder of his school’s neuroscience club, co-captain of the Mock Trial team, and biology and chemistry representative on the Science Bowl team. He has won multiple awards in Mock Trial and Science Bowl competitions and is a two-time USABO semi-finalist. He has published research on motor and visual brain pathways, as well as on invasive and in-situ breast cancer statistics. Anuragh will be attending UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall, where he has been accepted as an Accelerated Research Scholar and would like to pursue his dream of becoming a neurosurgeon.

Claudia T. is a peer tutor for the PTC and is a member of her school’s marching band, HOSA, and the National Honor Society. She will be attending UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall, where she intends on majoring in biology as a part of the pre-med track.

She will be attending North Carolina State University in the fall, where she intends on majoring in biomedical engineering, as she hopes to study prosthetics and medical device development.

PTC Class of 2020
With face-to-face schools closed due to COVID-19, many students have had an unorthodox senior year. In the midst of all of the quarantine chaos, seniors in the PTC have been working hard to ease the transition to digital learning for many students across North Carolina. This month, TutorTalk is celebrating the accomplishments of the PTC's graduating class of 2020!
Gracie B.
Gracie B. tutors in AP European History, Art History, and SAT Prep. She serves as co-editor of TutorTalk and founded the Student Research Alliance to provide virtual research opportunities for high school students. She enjoys volunteering at a local sea turtle hospital and participating in Key Club and STAND Club. She also loves to write and is a produced playwright. Gracie will attend Duke University and plans to study public policy or economics.
Kenan H.

Kenan H. is a peer tutor who serves as the co-lead for AP Calculus and AP Computer Science in the PTC's AP Initiative. He has a strong aptitude for programming and published his first app in the fifth grade. Kenan is also the co-founder of the Central NC Math Group and participates in FTC Robotics. He is currently conducting mathematical research on partial differential equations. Kenan will pursue his passion for math and computer science at Stanford University.
Alexandra H.
Alexandra H. tutors in subjects ranging from Spanish I to AP European History. She pioneered the PTC's AP Initiative to increase academic support for students taking AP courses through NCVPS. She also participated in the Stanford SPICE China Scholars Program and studied social science at North Carolina Governor's School. Alexandra will attend Barnard College of Columbia University. She plans to study international affairs and East-Asian relations.

Jazmin V.G. is a social studies and Latin tutor, Virtual Buddy, and Student Research Alliance participant. She is president of her school's National Honor Society and a karate female champion. Jazmin participates in equestrian and Science Olympiad. She also helps simulate patient scenarios for medical students at East Carolina University. Jazmin looks forward to studying nutrition and biochemistry on a premed track at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Lauren J. tutors in a variety of math, computer programming , and photography courses. Lauren has been playing tennis since she was just six years old and is a member of her school's varsity team. She also serves as president of the Keywanettes and participates in National Honor Society and Beta Club. Lauren will attend Tulane University in the fall, where she plans to study neuroscience and computer science.

Sreedhar R. tutors in subjects ranging from biology to calculus to personal finance. Outside of the PTC, Sreedhar is an involved student athlete: he plays varsity tennis and soccer. He participates in National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Key Club. He also enjoys playing piano. Sreedhar will attend North Carolina State University to study electrical and computer engineering.

Rishi A. is a biology and math tutor who serves as a team lead. He raised thousands of dollars to build schools in rural India through Interact Club. He also participates in Science Olympiad and Math Team. Rishi will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Will Froelich Fellow. He was accepted to the Honors College and granted assured admission to the undergraduate business school. He is exploring careers in corporate law and finance. Rishi is four minutes older than his twin brother, Raj, who is also a peer tutor.
Brenda M. tutors in Japanese I. She is involved in National Honor Society, BETA Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and SGA. Brenda is passionate about volleyball and looks forward to continuing her athletic career in college. She will attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a Levine Scholar. She plans to double major in elementary education and international studies, with hopes of teaching in the U.S. and abroad.
Taylor P. is a peer tutor specializing in Japanese I. She is the secretary of her school's Thespian Society and performed as a narrator in a radio production of "A Christmas Carol." Taylor also has experience with graphics editing software and earned her certification in Adobe Photoshop. She plans to attend Lane Community College and is still exploring potential majors.

Raj A. is a team lead and peer tutor specializing in math and biology. He is the vice president of his local Interact Club and a member of the Academy of Scholars. He attends a selective engineering program in his high school and is team captain of Relay for Life. He also participates in Science Olympiad, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, and Math Team. Raj received assured admission to the environmental health program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and plans to become a doctor.

Emily S. is a participant in the Student Research Alliance. She has a passion for STEM and assists with research at the Duke Lemur Center. She is also involved in Science Olympiad and concert band. Emily is dedicated girl scout and earned her Gold Award. She will attend Duke University as a member of the service-learning FOCUS program. She plans to study evolutionary anthropology and global health to become a researcher.

Brynna M. tutors in a wide variety courses such as Psychology and French I and serves as a Virtual Buddy. She is president of her school's National Honor Society and captain of the varsity cheerleading squad. She also participates in Beta Club, Speech and Debate Club, and Student Council. Brynna has thrived in her high school's software development program and will major in computer science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is considering minors in studio art and chemistry.
Rohit J. tutors in countless subjects, including AP Calculus BC and AP World History. He also serves as the PTC's lead statistician and as a team lead. Additionally, he is involved in the Writing Center and the Virtual Buddy Program. Rohit is co-president of his school's Speech and Debate Team and performed biomathematics research at North Carolina State University. In his free time, he enjoys reading and playing the flute. Rohit will pursue a math-related course of study at the University of Pennsylvania.
